The Best of 2026: a look back at the tastings, ratings, and new vintages that have shaped our year so far
If there has been one defining theme of 2026 for us, it has been Cerequio.
On April 9 and 10, at Palás Cerequio, we uncorked all thirty vintages of our family’s Barolo Cerequio for the very first time, from 1988 through to 2022. Two days of tastings with leading international journalists and sommeliers were followed by a dinner celebrating the many expressions of this remarkable cru.
Bringing together almost four decades of vintages in a single tasting offered a unique opportunity to observe evolution, contrast, and continuity – while revealing the unmistakable voice of the vineyard across every vintage. Kerin O’Keefe described the vertical as “celestial,” while Othmar Kiem wrote of “thirty vintages, thirty personalities – yet always the same unmistakable voice.”
That is where we begin this review of the year so far – from Cerequio to our other Barolo and Barbaresco crus, through the many expressions of Nizza, Gavi, and Moscato d’Asti, in a journey across the wines that best define our vision of Piedmont.

In her article Michele Chiarlo’s Celestial Cerequio 1988–2022, Kerin O’Keefe reviewed every wine in the vertical, awarding 98 points to the 1989 vintage and 96 points to the 1999, 2013, 2016, 2021, and 2022.
Aldo Fiordelli, writing for JamesSuckling.com, also revisited nearly four decades of Cerequio, awarding 99 points to the 1999 vintage, 98 points to the 1988 and 2015, and 97 points to the 1990, 2000, 2013, and 2022. Meanwhile, James Button of Decanter awarded the 2019 vintage 95 points, naming it Wine of the Month.

Alongside our Barolo and Barbaresco crus, Nizza Riserva La Court 2022 topped Vinum‘s Top 10 Nizza DOCG ranking with 95 points, Gavi Fornaci 2021 received 93 points and a Cellar Selection from Wine Enthusiast, Moscato d’Asti Nivole 2025 led Vinum‘s tasting with 93 points, and Barbera d’Asti Le Orme 2023 was included in Wine Enthusiast’s Top 10 Wine Values.
