Ten new hectares for Nizza Docg
Michele Chiarlo continues to invest in Nizza Docg. In a particularly happy period for the newborn name and for the Nizza Cipressi, which in 2018 conquered the top of the Top 100 of the authoritative American magazine Wine Enthusiast, the Chiarlo family decided to purchase another 10 hectares of vineyards within the area of Nizza docg.
With this acquisition, the viticultural heritage owned by the winery in the production area of Nizza Docg, which already covers 10 hectares in the historic estate of La Court, rises to 20 hectares, enriched by two new plots, of 2.5 hectares in the municipality respectively of Castelnuovo Calcea, in the Montemareto cru, and of 7.5 hectares in Mombercelli, in the Moncucco Cavino cru.
“We are delighted to have had the opportunity to add two plots of land suited to our winemaking heritage within a denomination that we have strongly wanted and that we intend to continue to support in its growth – declares Stefano Chiarlo, owner together with his brother Alberto and to his father Michele della Michele Chiarlo – Since the beginning of this DOCG, in the days when our father Michele was the first president of the newly formed Nice Association, we believed that this wine, which today is receiving important awards from national and international critics , had all the papers necessary to enter the rose of the great Piedmontese reds. Investments in this area are concrete proof of its great potential, which as producers and members of the Association is our desire to continue to enhance in the vineyard and to promote on international markets ”

Montemareto, panorama
Both vineyards extend within the central part of the Nice DOCG area. The parcel of Montemareto (2.5 hectares) is characterized by a steep slope and an enviable southern exposure that allows to have, during the summer and autumn, a considerable number of hours of light. The soils are of marine sedimentary origin with a prevalence of pale sandy silt marls and an important presence of microelements including calcium and magnesium. characteristics that contribute to the production of structured, long-lived and balanced wines.
A few kilometers further north, on the other hand, the 7.5 hectares of vineyards with southern exposure are located within the Moncucco Cavino cru. Here the hills become more gentle and the white soils typical of this area are colored with blue shades, due to the consistent presence of lugagnano clays. In this area, in fact, the sandy component is scarce in favor of the silty component which is revealed in wines characterized by freshness, acidity and minerality.
It will be an honor for us to confront ourselves with these new plots and it is our intention, if the right opportunities are presented, to continue investing in the great Piedmontese territories, because our family’s vocation has always been to make wine in the most prestigious appellations of Piedmont
