“Le Madri”, an Arneis for the summer
There’s a time of year when everything starts moving again. It happens in the vineyard, when green shoots push back through the vines, and outside too – in the longer days, the shift in the air, the craving for freshness. May is the month of rebirth, and perhaps not by chance, also the month we dedicate to mothers: to what gives life, sustains it, and helps it grow.
Lot 41 is our way of welcoming the summer and honoring the month of all mothers – a special selection created exclusively for Wine Club members, featuring six bottles of the 2024 vintage of Le Madri, our Roero Arneis DOCG.
Arneis is an ancient Piedmontese grape that has only been rediscovered in recent decades. Once nearly forgotten, it’s now one of the region’s most distinctive white varieties. Grown almost exclusively in the Roero, it’s known for its elegance, aromatic lift, and savory character – a reflection of the sandy soils and bright hillsides it calls home.
Le Madri is our expression of Arneis: a clean, mineral wine grown on marine-origin sandy soils, from vineyards facing west and southeast. The grapes are hand-harvested, gently pressed, and fermented slowly at low temperatures. A three-month ageing on fine lees in stainless steel gives the wine volume and vibrant depth on the palate.
Bright in the glass, with delicate notes of peach, tropical fruit, and acacia blossom, it’s soft and savory on the palate, with a finish that draws you back for another sip – a wine made for the summer, perfect with vegetable risottos, seafood, or simply on its own.
The Vintage
The 2024 vintage in Roero was all about balance. After a mild and fairly dry winter, spring brought good rainfall to replenish water reserves. A dry, breezy summer followed, allowing the Arneis to ripen slowly and evenly, preserving its freshness and aromatics. The grapes arrived in the cellar healthy, with bright acidity and intense aromas – a vintage that promises elegance and drinkability.
