Cipressi – for the hill to the label

Cipressi helped redefine how Barbera is told. Breaking with the tradition of barrique ageing, it relies solely on large oak casks to express the grape’s purest fruit character. Its name was inspired by the cypress trees standing tall on the hill of La Court – a natural landmark that became a graphic symbol and then a work of art. For this special lot, artist Giancarlo Ferraris transforms the cypresses into protagonists, creating an original lithograph that accompanies the release: six bottles of Cipressi Nizza DOCG 2023, paired with a numbered and signed print of the artwork, offered exclusively to Wine Club members.

Crafted from vineyards between Castelnuovo Calcea and Mombercelli, Cipressi 2023 is a Nizza DOCG that stands out for its expressive clarity, structure, and softness. It ferments in stainless steel with gentle maceration, ages for one year in large oak casks, then rests in bottle.
Brilliant ruby red in the glass, it opens with notes of violet, blackberry, raspberry, and sweet spice. The palate is generous and harmonious, with a savoury, rounded finish – Barbera at its most pure and ambitious.
The 2023 Vintage
Marked by a dry winter and high temperatures in spring and summer, the 2023 season was balanced by mid-August rains, which helped achieve optimal ripeness. The ratio of pulp to skin leaned heavily toward the skin, resulting in concentration, colour, and intensity. Harvest was brought forward by about two weeks to preserve freshness – in keeping with Chiarlo’s stylistic approach.
