Cerequio
is to be found on a splendid, south-facing amphitheatre hill between
the communes of La Morra and Barolo. The exceptional composition
of the soil together with a particularly mild climate make Cerequio
one of most prestigious crus throughout the entire Barolo production
area.
Agronomist
and researcher Lorenzo Fantini, in his famous "Monografia della
Viticoltura ed Enologia della Provincia di Cuneo", written in
1880, drew up the first classification of the Barolo vineyards:
only Cerequio and a neighbouring vineyard were ranked as having
the "most suitable positions". We are the owners of Antico Podere
Averame, comprising about 6 hectares, which represents over a
third of the cru that we grow, with the utmost commitment, in
order to produce a top-rank Barolo.
Characteristics
of the cru: particularly elegant, olfactory complexity with
predominant balsamic sensations, of mint, fruit jams; its taste
matches the bouquet; its structure is rich, ample and of great
character, with a notable presence of delicate tannins; surprising
is the delicacy with which it caresses the palate.
Life
cycle: it reaches its peak after 5-6 years, and can exceed
20 years.
Serving
temperature: 17-18° C. Accompaniments: red meat and game dishes,
excellent with ripe, non-marbled cheese.
